Moataz Matar has been put on a watch list, which means he will be unable to return to the UK.

An exiled Egyptian television presenter has reportedly had his visa revoked by the United Kingdom for allegedly supporting Hamas amid government efforts to crack down on support for the Palestinian armed organisation it considers a “terrorist” group.

The Home Office cancelled Moataz Matar’s visa for, among other things, taking part in pro-Palestinian protests in London and supporting Hamas, according to the London-based Telegraph news website.

The 49-year-old has also been put on a watch list, which means he will be unable to return to the UK.

This is reportedly the first “expulsion” by Home Secretary Suella Braverman and Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick since the October 7 Hamas attack inside Israel that killed some 1,200 people.

Since then, Israel has been launching air raids and a ground assault on Gaza, where the group is based, which has killed more than 11,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, creating a humanitarian crisis. Israel has refused an immediate ceasefire despite growing international calls.

British officials have announced plans for a crackdown on alleged “anti-Semitic” behaviour in the wake of the Hamas attack, and the Telegraph reported at least another half dozen foreign nationals could have their visas revoked.

“There can be zero tolerance for visitors to the UK who abuse the privilege of a visa and endorse evil terrorist acts,” Jenrick was quoted as saying. “To any individuals considering following suit in the coming days and weeks, be in no doubt that we will continue to revoke visas wherever required. We will not tolerate extremism on our streets.”

Matar has reportedly left the UK, but he will be barred from returning by border officials due to the watch list.

The Home Office has powers to revoke foreign nationals’ student, visitor, or work visas where it deems a person’s behaviour to be “not conducive to the public good” or if they are judged a threat to national security.

Jenrick and Chris Philip, the policing minister, have reportedly asked all 43 police forces in England and Wales to report any foreign individuals caught in any potentially “extremist activities” that could be grounds for the revocation of their visas.

Following the Hamas attack, Jenrick has also reportedly stayed in contact with the Community Security Trust, tasked with providing security to Jewish communities, to pass on names of any foreign nationals they deem to exhibit “anti-Semitic” behaviour.

France has also imposed a ban on pro-Palestinian rallies and cracked down on people demonstrating against the killing of civilians in Gaza.

France’s interior minister, Gerald Darmanin, has ordered that all foreign nationals who are found to commit anti-Semitic acts be expelled immediately from the country. At least three have already been expelled by France.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that Israel should stop bombing the besieged enclave and killing civilians. Israel quickly rejected his remarks, saying world leaders should be condemning Hamas, not Israelis.

A newborn baby has died and dozens more are at risk at Gaza’s largest hospital after it ran out of power, Palestinian officials have said.

Israeli troops have been closing in on al Shifa hospital in Gaza City, which Israel says is a command centre for the Hamas militant group.

Fighting near the hospital and other areas of northern Gaza has been intensifying and supplies have run out.

A spokesperson for the Palestinian health ministry in Gaza said the newborn baby died in an incubator after the last generator ran out of fuel.

The hospital has had to suspend all operations, spokesperson Ashraf al Qidra said.

According to the general director of hospitals in Gaza, dozens more babies are at risk.

“There are 39 infants now in the neonatal intensive care unit, one of them died moments ago and the rest are fighting death,” Dr Mohammad Zaqout said.

“There are also 40 wounded in the intensive care unit, we lost one of them in the first hour of power outage.

“No one can enter or leave the Shifa hospital, therefore the injured people outside the hospital won’t find a place to be treated in.”

The facility still hosts thousands of patients as well as people who have sought shelter there in recent weeks.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the responsibility for any harm to civilians in Gaza lies with Hamas.

He repeated allegations that the militant group uses civilians as human shields.

Staff at the hospital deny Israel’s claim that the Hamas command centre is located underneath the complex.

    Thousands flee to south Gaza

    Patients have ‘started to die’

Mohammed Abu Selmia, director of al Shifa hospital said: “There is no electricity. Medical devices stopped. Patients, especially those in intensive care, started to die.”

Speaking by phone over the sound of gunfire and explosions, he added that Israeli troops are “shooting at anyone outside or inside the hospital” and have prevented movement between the buildings in the compound.

On Friday, Gaza officials said one person was killed and several were wounded after missiles landed in a courtyard of al Shifa hospital.

Israel’s military later said that a misfired projectile launched by Palestinian militants in Gaza had hit the hospital.

Israel is urging civilians to leave combat zones and has agreed to brief evacuation windows to allow civilians to flee to southern Gaza.

However, Mr Netanyahu said: “Hamas is doing everything it can to prevent them from leaving”.

So far, more than 150,000 civilians have fled the north, according to UN monitors. Although tens of thousands remain – many sheltering at hospitals and UN facilities.

Israel’s allies have backed the country’s right to defend itself since Hamas militants carried out a deadly rampage in southern Israel on 7 October, but pressure is growing on Israel to do more to protect Palestinian civilians.

On Friday, French President Emmanuel Macron called for a humanitarian ceasefire.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Macron said France “clearly condemns” the “terrorist” actions of Hamas, and recognises Israel’s right to protect itself, but said “we do urge them to stop this bombing” in Gaza.

“De facto, today civilians are bombed, de facto, there’s babies, there’s ladies, there’s old people are bombed and killed,” he said.

“There is no reason for that and no legitimacy. So we do urge Israel to stop.”

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators are marching through London today.

Rep. Seth Moulton says Israel is heading to a ‘Forever War’ by focusing on military solutions to political problems.

In Afghanistan, United States General Stanley McChrystal referred to “insurgent math” to explain how every civilian killed by US forces led to 10 new insurgents.

This is the same problem Israel is creating for itself by killing massive numbers of innocent Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to US Representative Seth Moulton, a Marine veteran who fought in Iraq.

“I want Israel and Palestine to have peace,” Moulton tells host Steve Clemons. But for that to happen, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu needs to put forth a political solution and “explain to the Palestinians what their future is”.

Pond mysteriously turns bright pink in Hawaii - as experts reveal why it's a cause for concern | World News

A pond in Hawaii has mysteriously turned bright pink – with experts voicing concerns about the bizarre phenomenon.

Curious onlookers have been flocking to the pond after images first appeared on social media.

Volunteers at the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge on Maui, some of whom have been around the water for 70 years, say they have never seen anything like it before.

Bret Wolfe, the refuge manager, said he was first alerted by someone walking on the beach who told him: “There’s something weird going on over here”.

But while it may look fun, officials think the cause of the pond turning pink could be more concerning.

Maui has been experiencing a drought which scientists say may be responsible.

Toxic algae was first considered a suspect, but lab tests found it was not the cause of the colour.

Instead, an organism called halobacteria might be the culprit.

Halobacteria are a type of archaea or single-celled organism that thrive in bodies of water with high levels of salt.

The salinity inside the Kealia Pond outlet area is currently twice the salinity of seawater.

However, Mr Wolfe said the pond has previously been through periods of drought and high salinity and it remains a mystery why the colour has changed now.

DNA analysis still needs to be done to confirm the source of the transformation.

Visitors are being warned not to enter the water or eat any fish caught there while the cause is investigated.
