قادما من إسرائيل، توجه وزير الجيوش الفرنسية سيباستيان لوكورنو إلى قطر التي زارها قبل يومين فقط، من أجل إجراء مباحثات مع رئيس وزرائها محمد بن عبد الرحمن آل ثاني.

وكان الوزير زار تباعا مصر والسعودية والإمارات وقطر ثم إسرائيل الجمعة.

وتطرق في كل محطة إلى وضع الرهائن، خاصة وأن لدى بلاده 8 مفقودين، كما التقى بعائلات الرهائن في إسرائيل.

وأعرب لوكورنو الخميس من قطر عن “أمله” بشأن مصيرهم.

وخطفت حماس نحو 240 رهينة خلال هجومها غير المسبوق على جنوب إسرائيل في 7 تشرين الأول/أكتوبر، وفق الجيش الاسرائيلي، ومن بين الرهائن ثمانية فرنسيين، وفقاً لباريس.

وتقود قطر التي تستضيف المكتب السياسي لحماس وقدمت مساعدات مالية بملايين الدولارات لغزة، وساطة سمحت بالإفراج عن أربع رهائن في تشرين الأول/أكتوبر، هم أميركية وابنتها بالإضافة إلى إسرائيليتين.

وأدى هذا الهجوم إلى مقتل نحو 1200 شخص في إسرائيل غالبيتهم من المدنيين قضوا خصوصا في اليوم الأول من الهجوم، بحسب السلطات الإسرائيلية.

وردت الدول العبرية بقصف قطاع غزة من دون هوادة بهدف “القضاء” على حماس، ما أسفر عن مقتل أكثر من 12 ألف شخص غالبيّتهم مدنيّون وبينهم خمسة آلاف طفل، وفق أحدث حصيلة أصدرتها حكومة حماس.

The troubled Las Vegas Grand Prix has been hit by a lawsuit on behalf of 35,000 fans.

Already controversial for its price tag, comparisons to non-league English football and an incident with a manhole cover, Formula One’s return to Sin City has hit another sharp curve.

The race is expected to begin at 6.00am UK time on Sunday, with Britain’s George Russell starting in third position for Mercedes, behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in pole position.

Sunday’s contest has been hit with a class action lawsuit after the highly anticipated first action on the neon-lit circuit – Thursday’s practice session – lasted less than nine minutes.

Fans who had bought tickets to the event hoping to see drivers tearing down the Las Vegas Strip at breath-taking speeds instead watched as a loose manhole cover tore a hole in Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari, bringing proceedings to a screeching halt.

What followed was a five-and-a-half hour delay while crews removed all 30 covers along the 3.8-mile layout and filled the holes with sand and asphalt.

A second 90-minute practice session began in front of empty grandstands in the middle of the night, long after fans had been cleared out in a move officials said was a necessary safety precaution.

Las Vegas Grand Prix officials attempted damage control, offering $200 (£160) merchandise vouchers to single-day ticket holders, but the compensation did not extend to those who had purchased three-day passes.

“There are a number of issues with that (compensation)”, lawyer Steve Dimopoulos said.

“A lot of fans probably don’t even want that, they want their money back.

“There are also peripheral issues of what about the people that came in from out of town and paid for substantial air fare and hotels.”

News of the lawsuit comes after Verstappen – reigning world champion – compared the Las Vegas Grand Prix to the fifth tier of English football, while suggesting fans just want to get “s***-faced”.

“Monaco is Champions League and this is National League,” he said.

“I feel like the show is important, but I like emotion. When I was a little kid, it was all about the emotion of the sport that I fell in love with and not the show. As a real racer, the show shouldn’t matter.

The Shifa Hospital in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip is a “death zone” with a mass grave at the entrance and a “desperate” situation inside, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said.

A team of UN and WHO experts conducted a “high-risk operation” on Saturday to get inside the hospital, despite heavy fighting reported to be ongoing nearby.

Hundreds of patients, staff and displaced people have been leaving the site, with one evacuee describing a panicked and chaotic scene as Israeli forces searched and face-scanned some men as they left, taking individuals away.

Israel has accused Hamas of running a command centre underneath the hospital – a claim Hamas and hospital staff deny.

In a statement issued on Saturday evening, the WHO said its team arrived after the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) had issued evacuation orders to the remaining 2,500 internally displaced people who had been seeking refuge on the hospital grounds.

The WHO spokesperson added: “Due to time limits associated with the security situation, the team was able to spend only one hour inside the hospital, which they described as a ‘death zone,’ and the situation as ‘desperate’.

“Signs of shelling and gunfire were evident. The team saw a mass grave at the entrance of the hospital and were told more than 80 people were buried there.”

In its report, the WHO said that Shifa Hospital – once the largest, most advanced and best-equipped referral hospital in Gaza – has essentially stopped functioning as a medical facility.

“Corridors and the hospital grounds were filled with medical and solid waste, increasing the risk of infection. Patients and health staff with whom they spoke were terrified for their safety and health, and pleaded for evacuation.”

Remaining patients included 32 babies which the WHO said were in “extremely critical condition” and two people in intensive care without ventilation.
