أعربت وزارة الخارجية عن ترحيب المملكة العربية السعودية بصدور قرار مجلس الأمن رقم (2720)، الذي يدعو إلى اتخاذ خطوات عاجلة للسماح فورًا بإيصال المساعدات الإنسانية بشكل موسع وآمن، ودون عوائق، وتهيئة الظروف اللازمة لوقف مستدام لإطلاق النار. وعبَّرت الوزارة عن أملها بأن يُشكِّل هذا القرار خطوة في الاتجاه الصحيح؛ للوصول إلى وقف شامل للعمليات العسكرية، وحماية المدنيين في غزة.

وأكدت وزارة الخارجية تجديد المملكة مطالبتها باضطلاع المجتمع الدولي بمسؤولياته، ووضع حدٍّ فوري للانتهاكات الممنهجة التي تمارسها سلطات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي تجاه المدنيين العُزَّل من قتل وتهجير قسري، بما يخالف القانون الدولي والقانون الدولي الإنساني.

وتبنى مجلس الأمن الدولي الجمعة، قراراً ينص على إنشاء آلية أممية لتسريع إيصال المساعدات الإنسانية إلى غزة، وأيدت 13 دولة مشروع القرار الذي قدمته الإمارات، بينما امتنعت كل من الولايات المتحدة وروسيا عن التصويت، ولم تصوت أي دولة بالمجلس ضد القرار ما سمح بتمريره.

يشار إلى أن العمليات العسكرية الإسرائيلية في قطاع غزة تتواصل من قصف وتوغل بري في قطاع غزة منذ 11 أسبوعاً، والتي أسفرت عن مقتل ما يقرب من 20 ألفاً، وفقاً لوزارة الصحة الفلسطينية، ويُعتقد بأن آلاف الجثث الأخرى لا تزال تحت الأنقاض.

Shielded riot police barricaded themselves inside Belgrade’s city hall as they fired tear gas at hundreds of opposition supporters who were trying to enter the building.

The demonstrators had gathered in the Serbian capital on Sunday as they called for the annulment of parliamentary and local elections which took place last weekend.

International observers said the election was unfair.

Some demonstrators threw flares at police and broke windows near the entrance of the building while others shouted “open the door” and “thieves” during Sunday night’s disorder. They also pelted the building with eggs.

Some chanted “Vucic is Putin,” comparing the Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic with Russia’s leader.

Later, the police pushed the crowd from the downtown area and made several arrests. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Mr Vucic, who has said claims of voting irregularities during the elections were blatant “lies” promoted by the political opposition, called the protesters “thugs” as he addressed the nation during the disorder in Belgrade.

He added that they would not succeed in destabilising the state and said: “This is not a revolution.

“They will not succeed.”

Mr Vucic added that “we are doing our best with our calm and mild reaction not to hurt demonstrators” who came to the event to protest peacefully.

The populist president also suggested the unrest was instigated from abroad as the country’s authorities denied rigging the vote and described the election to fill parliament and local offices as fair.

Results from the 17 December election showed victory for Mr Vucic’s Serbian Progressive Party in both the parliamentary and Belgrade city ballots.

The party’s main opponent, the Serbia Against Violence alliance, said it was robbed of a win, especially in Belgrade.

The vote has caused political tensions in the Balkan nation, which is seeking close ties with Russia but also European Union membership.

In a letter sent to EU institutions, officials and member nations, Serbia Against Violence said it would not recognise the outcome of the elections.

The alliance called on the EU to do the same and to initiate an investigation.

Ukraine says it has shot down 14 of 15 Russian drones launched at the south of the country overnight.

“As a result of air combat, Ukraine’s Air Force and defence forces destroyed 14 shaheds in Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro and Khmelnytskyi regions,” the Ukrainian Air Force said on the Telegram messaging app.

The drones were launched from the eastern coast of the Sea of Azov in Russia, it said.

There was no immediate comment from Russia and Reuters could not independently verify the report.

In a separate wave of attacks on Saturday, one person was killed and seven injured when Russian shelling struck the southern region of Kherson.

Kherson governor Oleksandr Prokudin said a drone attack killed a man in the town of Stanislav, while a sustained assault on a residential area left seven people hurt.

Russia also shelled a power station closer to the front lines in eastern Ukraine, injuring five workers and knocking out electricity to the town of Kurakhovo.

Russian forces abandoned positions on the western bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region a year ago, but constantly shell areas there from new positions on the eastern bank.

On Saturday, Ukraine’s military claimed it shot down three Russian fighter jets in the Kherson region.

Air force spokesperson Yuri Ihnat described it on national television as a “brilliantly planned operation”.

Ukrainian aviation expert Valeriy Romanenko told Ukrainian NV Radio he believed US-supplied Patriot missiles most likely downed the planes.

The news from Ukraine comes as Russia bars anti-war candidate Yekaterina Duntsova from running in the next presidential election.

The former TV journalist hoped to challenge Vladimir Putin, running on a platform to end the war with Ukraine.
